Diet Or Exercise For Weight Loss?

It’s a really age old question, is diet or exercise better for weight loss?

The short answer is that diet is exceedingly better for weight loss. Exercise on it’s own is highly unlikely to cause little if any weight loss at all.

Combining diet and exercise can have great weight loss benefits but the key piece of this combo is once again diet.

If you’re unable or unwilling to change your dietary intake, it’s going to be very difficult for you to drop weight in general.

So Why Exercise?

The main reason you should still exercise is that it’s likely to help you stay alive.

Exercise is a normalizer. It keeps blood pressure down, keeps your system working and moving and maintains basic muscle. It’s literally what keeps you going.

Humans are meant to move throughout their lives.

Can You Stay Active & Be Healthy if You’re Overweight?

Yes and no. Keep in mind that your body is generally storing excess fat outside of your vital organs and systems.

It’s putting excess fat somewhere it will do less harm. By gaining extra weight, you’re challenging this system. The amount of excess weight you gain could impede it.

Many people carry large amounts of excess weight without any complications and many people have complications.

The risk is yours and it’s difficult to gauge who’s body will manage the extra stress and who’s won’t.

Should You Start With Diet Or Exercise?

You should start with diet. If you’re out of shape, you can’t start much of an exercise program. You need to start exercising but, you need to do it very slowly. On the other hand, you can start making healthier choices right away and you should do so.

As we mentioned, diet and exercise can be combined for best results but regarding weight loss, diet will have the biggest impact.

To get started, talk to your physician and then to a fitness professional and start changing your physical and mental lifestyle for the better today.

Best of health,
