Ever bought a new fitness item that looks great on TV?

It looks so sleek and sharp and the people using it look fantastic.

They tell you there are a million different exercises you can do with it and then, you get it home and try one or two exercises and now what?

Fear Not!

This is perfectly normal and the good thing is, most pieces of fitness equipment can be used really advantageously!

You just need to figure how to use them.

This is where a trainer comes in:

We show people all the time how to design a routine at home with little or no fitness equipment. The trick is to have someone teach you a few moves. Someone taught you your job, another person taught you how to drive and someone can teach you how to get in shape.

It’s so much easier when you know what to do!

You are allowed to get help. It’s perfectly ok to get support, guidance and learn how to get in shape just like you’ve learned how to do things in the past.

And once you know the right way to drive, things get a whole lot easier.

At Home Fitness Equipment List

1 Exercise Bands

Bands are one of the best pieces of at home fitness equipment to start your home program with. They’re light, provide varied amounts of resistance and they fold up in the closet and the suitcase really well.

If you’re worried about the right resistance, remember you can change the resistance by standing on the cord differently or by looping it around a railing or door knob a few times.

2 Exercise Mat

Yes you can use the floor but if you have hardwood in your workout room, a cheap and simple exercise mat might come in handy for exercises like planks and hip lifts.

Most of the time, a yoga mat will do fine. If you need something more serious, you can often pick up padded mats at your local fitness equipment store.

3 Boxing Gloves & Mini bag

Boxing is one of the most fun at home fitness activities. Pick up a pair of boxing gloves and a small punching bag (bag the size of a basketball). Many of these bags can be mounted to doors, desks, walls and other convenient areas instead of having to mount a full size bag.

We offer boxing with our trainers as well so be sure to ask us about adding it to your routine.

4 Medicine Ball

Medicine balls are still great exercise items. They’re tough and durable and can be carried, tossed, stepped on, hand balanced on and so much more. They’re also an affordable fitness item. If you have a workout partner, you can toss them back and forth too. Add them to your crunches and your walking lunges and you’ll see just how versatile med balls really can be.

And when you’re done with them, simply roll them into the closet and go on with your day!

5 Small Pair of dumbbells

The main thing I use small dumbbells for is shoulder exercises. They just work so well for most shoulder exercises. I highly suggest the coated ones or hex dumbbells if you’re pondering which ones to get. A small pair of dumbbells can also work really well to hold during other exercises or during cardio.

Both men and women look so much better with a  little shoulder definition. They’re a no brainier exercise athletically and getting your shoulder moving can help you stave off impingement and other shoulder issues.

Bonus #1

Your Body! You can do all kinds of calisthenics at home with your body. Squats, Lunges, Hip Lifts, Push Ups, Jumping Jacks, Butt Kicks, Body Rows, Crunches are just some of the exercises that require no equipment at all.

Whatever piece of equipment you choose to use, be sure to take advantage of the at home workout. It’s a super comfortable and cost effective way to workout.

And of course, if you’re not sure how to use your equipment, give us a call, we’ve got a few ideas for you!
